I’ve had a stressful two weeks, and because I’m far too tired to give you the long winded version, here’s the short version
My new computer froze up, and then wouldn’t restart. We returned it and blamed Windows.
My old computer froze up, and then wouldn’t restart. I’d blame windows but its a Linux machine. Realized that the surge protector must have gotten fried during the power outages and isn’t protecting our machines.
Steve’s passport was denied because he didn’t check a checkbox (we leave for Hawaii March 2nd)
After several attempts to rebook our flight through Seattle we finally realize that he’s just going to have to take a day off work and sit in the passport line in Victoria to get his passport.
In Victoria, he checks on my passport. It hasn’t even been opened. No hope in hell either Callum nor I will have passport in time.
Mad rush to fill out new applications, get new photos and have it all guaranteed again. All during a growth spurt, so my son? A complete joy during all this. No. Really.
Very bitterly, I go to Victoria the very next day and get in line at FOUR IN THE MORNING while Steve stays home with Callum. Steve had ordered a birth certificate* for Callum the day before and paid through the nose for 24 hour delivery. After getting into the passport office (at 10 am) I wait outside my brother-in-law’s office until 3:30 for said birth certificate to return it to passport office to get a passport for March 2 (not that we’re cutting it close or anything). No birth certificate arrives. I go back to the passport office and she says I can bring it on Monday (I was there on Friday). I go home. Angry.
Breastfeeding has not been easy for either Callum or me, but we have persevered supplementing with only 10 ounces of formula a day. 32 hours being away from my son has basically ruined that. You can imagine how this impresses me after all that struggle.
Birth certificate arrives late Monday, and brother-in-law runs it over to the passport office and we appear good to go.
Today on the news? US to drop passport requirements for kids at border crossings. (ok, it only applies to land crossings into the US, but it ended my post rather nicely don’t you think?)
*Why are we buying another birth certificate? Because Passport Canada has the original one AND the Department for Social Insurance or whatever the hell it is called never returned the wallet copy.
This is CRAZY! You will need a vacation to get over the vacation! I am so sorry you had to go through this. Hopefully Hawaii is that much sweeter. There will be a drink with your name it waiting for you.
Does the above mean that spammers now smam the bloggers?! Yuch.
