Happy Halloween!!

man, I can’t sew

My bibs? Didn’t fair so well in the wash. Or rather, my sewing didn’t fair so well. A lot of the binding frayed. And a lot of my admittedly crap velcro came off, but it was that self-adhesive stuff. I couldn’t find any velcro you just sew on, and you can’t sew threw the damn adhesive. And I made a cute little crown for a friend’s little girl and a. forgot to take a picture and 2. its too small. I can’t win.
Its a learning process anyway. Maybe, someday, I’ll be able to sew something.
The Sequel is starting that pre-movement thing you feel that is all butterflies in your belly and feels sorta creepy. Hopefully we get to full-on movement soon because I hate this quickening feeling.
In Callum news, he’s a booger-making machine but pretty happy about it on the whole. He’s so damn cute right now, I just love this age. I’ve always loved this age, so its not surprising I’m having so much fun with it. We went out last night to a Halloween Party (perhaps they’ll be pictures but I take a horrific picture so I’m not making any promises) and he was an adorable spider. He even looked like a spider scooting all over the place.

Sick.

And so it spreads… first Steve, then the kidlet. I didn’t sleep last night trying to keep Callum asleep so I’m pretty sure I’m next unless being pregnant makes my super immune system the most amazing immune system ever and I miraculously fight it off.
Need. Sleep.
We’re skipping our playgroup today, though, because spreading the germs just seems rude.

Crafty and Thrifty. A Perfect Combination.

When Callum was wee I had bibs galore. Bibs are, I’m assuming, a fairly inexpensive shower gift. As Callum got older those first bibs just weren’t going to cut it anymore. They were adorable but clearly intended for little, little guys. Once a kid really starts to eat you need a serious bib that actually covers up something more than the underside of their chin.
Turns out the big bibs aren’t so cheap, which is why I’m guessing I didn’t get any as shower gifts. I did, however, get a couple of great hand-me-down bibs from Michelle and both my Grandma and Uncle bought Callum a couple of big bibs. 5 bibs, however, doesn’t get you very far until you have to do laundry and who wants to do laundry that often?
I was chatting with Grandma about the bib dilema and we both thought that you can probably make a bib pretty damn cheaply. I was in the local thrift store one afternoon and found this ridiculously cute shower curtain and thought “Hey! Cute Bibs!”.
So $2 for the curtain and another $18 in binding and velcro I am now the proud owner of 21 bibs with pockets. It would have been 22 but the cat ate the tip of one.

Admittedly twenty-two bibs is a little excessive. When I started this project I had no idea how far a simple shower curtain could go. It can go a long, long way. I just loved the little creatures on it. So cute!

In the same realm of craftiness and thriftiness, some time ago I realized that I needed some face clothes for Callum in the kitchen. I have a huge stash of those little cotton clothes that you can buy everywhere, but we use those for diaper clean-ups so they really can’t be used to wash his face. I have this huge stash of wool (most of it cheap and crappy) and happened to have a pile of handicraft cotton so a face cloths I did make. A happy little basket, in fact.

And just because I can’t help myself, Callum’s trick-or-treat bag (also made from thrift-store felt, and left over doo-dads I had around the house. See? Still thrifty!)

My Dog? AWESOME.

I am saddened that no one felt obligated to comment on the awesomeness that is my dog. People! My dog is so awesome that he jumped the queue to get a spot in the kennel. That’s AWESOME.
Also, Calgarians, did you not catch on to the fact that if I need to put the dog in the kennel over Christmas then… I’ll be elsewhere for Christmas… like, say, Calgary?
poo-ee on all of you. Poo-EE.
In other news, oh wait, I don’t really have any other news. The Sequel appears to be doing well, with a heartbeat between 120-130 bpm and the appropriate growth. The best part, though, is that morning sickness is finally a thing of the past. Morning sickness can bite me, that’s how I feel about it. And I wasn’t even that sick, comparitively speaking. My first ultrasound will be November 5th at 19 weeks assuming nothing major happens between now and then. I’ll keep you posted because I know you’re just on the edge of your computer chair right now. Aren’t you? Right?
