The group that I volunteer for has an opportunity to (finally) get our website updated. As a result, I’m trying to put together a list of requirements so that I get out of this new website what I want. Mostly because its me thats been bitching about the quality of our website. We have a lot of great information at our fingertips that we’re not putting out there very well. It needs a lot of improvement. (if you’re curious about the group, send me an email and I’ll send you the link – I don’t want this site and that site linked since this site is, well, not professional in the least
).
So, I come to you for a little advice. Do you have any examples of websites that you love? Nothing fancy, nothing flashy, nothing too colorful. We’re an environmental group and our main objective is to put information out there. I live in an older community, so the website examples need to be clean, concise, and SIMPLE, yet modern and aesthetically pleasing to all demographics. Also am interested in things you’d like to see in an environmental website. Would a community be interested in seeing the best places to shop for say, fair-trade coffee? Or where to buy a product that uses recycable materials for packaging? Who to contact if you notice/suspect environmentally damaging practices?
Or just throw out some of your favorite websites and why, or ideas on what you expect from environmental groups that we’re failing at.
I’d love to help. I really would. But I’m totally drawing a blank. And I’m trying to think of the last time I went to a businessy/information website and actually *liked* it. Its been a long, long time.
I am always searching for environmental stuff, and more specifically, local resources. It’s great you can get an eco-carpet, but not if you have to mail order it from half way around the world. So, local enviro-products and where to get them would be great. And reviews on stuff people have tried, what works, what doesn’t, I like too.
As for good Web sites, I don’t have too many to recommend. Sad, really, I look at them every day. Maybe http://www.cleancalgary.org, it’s clean, but I think their graphic at the top is too huge. And they could use more information.
