Feeling an obligation to blog even though I have neither the energy nor the desire to do so.

Claire has taken to climbing everything in site. And I do mean everything. I knew, in a vague-not-my-problem sort of way that this is what kids her age do but you see, Callum wasn’t a climber. Callum sat in his little chair and read books. All mothers should have at least one Callum, it’s only fair. Every day I will walk into a room and oh look! There’s Claire standing on the kitchen table! oh look! There’s Claire standing on the desk! oh look! There’s Claire launching herself off said desk onto the couch and thinking this is the Best Game Ever! oh look! There’s Claire trying to figure out how to climb the diaper changing trolley! oh look! There’s Claire standing on the very flimsy TV table the TV is sitting on!
and so on and so forth.
Serioiusly, my nerves weren’t cut out for this. I’m not the kind of Mom who watches her kids like a hawk. Honestly, I hardly watch them at all, they’re just sort of there while I, you know, read blogs and update my facebook status. I have no idea how to child-proof a house from a kid who climbs everything.

During my showers the kids have taken to using my, um, womanly products, as showpieces in their mixed media art. While I appreciate their creativity I don’t appreciate how costly this is or how embarassing it’ll be the day someone walks into their room and I have either not noticed or have forgotten to remove said item from the wall where it was so carefully and proudly placed.
As previously mentioned, I’m not that good at child-proofing and for the life of me can’t think of a place to put said products that is both convenient but out of a kid’s reach.

Canning? Sucks. Just letting you know.

I finished reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and my opinion is don’t bother with it as I suspect the movie will be better. Although it seems I’m in the minority on that if you read the reviews at Chapters.

Steve and I recently watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which I do recommend. I thought it was really interesting.
Re: your womanly products. You could start using cloth pads instead of store-bought ones? I think they’d be right up your hippie alley, plus they don’t stick to anything.
Maybe you could put wire strips on the edges of all the furniture to stop Claire from climbing, like they do to stop birds roosting on posts and statues.
I had a “callum” and Lukas never climbed or got into anything…however seems the universe deemed it necessary that I get one of each. So good luck to you my friend…I’ll pray for us both that this “fun” stage is over soon. BTW missed your blogs so glad you’re back.
I’ll add some child safety stuff to your package.
I’ll be in your boat soon. Kailey never moved. Kade is already pseudo-crawling and doing laps, and thinks its great fun to roll across the room and wedge himself under something when my back is turned.
*sigh*
Yes, one of each!
I miss your posts. This one is great! You need some cabinet latches for your Womanly Product cupboards. I have no suggestions on how to stop the climbing, though. I laughed out loud at the “oh look!” paragraph, that’s pretty much how it goes around here too!
I can’t imagine what it would be like to have a kid who just sat there and read books while I blogged and so on. Now that I know that, I’m annoyed at you for not posting more often.
Hahahahahaha! You totally crack me up. Jack takes off with my pads, too. He actually dug up some old fertility test strips and they are currently scattered all over the bathroom floor. I can’t seem to be bothered to pick them up! He also loves the bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, and cough syrup. I think I really should take that stuff away from him in case he figures out how to open them and chugs them, but he can’t for now, so why?
Jack is also climbing up on everything. His favorite is the dishwasher. Granted, it’s not very high, but I swear he’s going to break the door. He weighs like 25 lbs! The dog weighs 26, and his fat ass gets up on there, too. Suppose I should do something about both, huh?
I do kind of freak about anything higher, though I’m relaxing about these things more and more every day.
My Barrett is a lot like your Callum. Content to just sit and be – read, play with blocks, colour, harmless stuff.
My Charlotte? She’s like your Claire. Reckless, determined, into everything, climbing on everything. I thought we had baby-proofed the house pretty well with Barrett because he didn’t get into anything. Charlie is determined to prove us wrong on that one.
I love reading your posts and know that I’m not the only one…
